2002 was a sad year for us. The old guys Mrs. Cat, Sam, and Farbish all reached 19 years and not much beyond. Mouse surprised us and died suddenly in October. He was a lot older than we'd realized. He'd been such a cheerful, jaunty little dog. We miss them more than we can say. Summer 2003 Byrd died peacefully in the sun under the willow tree in the back yard. 2005 Winston died in the winter, Maamaa began failing in winter 2006 and managed to stay with us until summer 2007. We miss them all.

Mouse adopted Elanor and took very good care of her. She laid next to him when he was ill and was very distraught when he died. Uncle Mousie weighed 22 lbs when Elanor came. He got down to 18 running around the back yard in the snow with Elanor and insisting on going walkies with us when he was probably too old already - he was probably 10 when we adopted him but we didn't know really.

Sam passed very quietly early in the morning - We didn't expect Farbish to last much longer but he stayed with us the whole summer and Fall. Mrs. Cat became very ill but fought death up to the last second. Probably we should have taken her to the vet a month or so sooner but we made the best of our last month. He was the schmooshter up to the last day. Every now and then he got enthusiastic and went out in the enclosure to dream of chasing small rodents. Sam was born an old codger.
